**Job Title**
Automated Test Engineer
**Role Overview**
We are looking for an Automated Test Engineer to own software and hardware aspects of Avicena’s custom automated testing equipment (ATE) used for wafer‑level ASIC and uLED testing, including test program development, probe card/ATE debug, and data analysis.
**Responsibilities**
- Develop, maintain, and extend software and proprietary scripting language for custom ATE platforms
- test sequencer, instrument control, safety and interlocks, logging, and UI as needed
- Design and implement automated test flows for wafer‑level and die-level uLED transceiver devices, including LIV (light–current–voltage) characterization, photodiode responsivity, parametric tests, and reliability screens
- Debug test failures across the full stack: probe card electronics, load/probe boards, cabling, instrumentation, and ATE software
- Work closely with probe card and hardware engineers to bring up new probe card designs, define pin‑maps, verify connectivity, and validate signal integrity on test stations
- Integrate new instruments and subsystems into the ATE (SMUs, oscilloscopes, light measurement instruments, motion stages, etc.), including driver development and calibration routines
- Build robust data pipelines for LIV and parametric measurements: automated collection, storage, and post‑processing (yield analysis, trend analysis, outlier detection, correlation with design/process data)
- Create dashboards and reports for engineering and operations, including automated daily/lot‑level summaries and failure analysis
- Support new product introduction on the tester: first silicon/first build bring‑up, characterization plan execution, and transition to production flows
- Drive root‑cause analysis for test escapes, yield excursions, and systemic failures, and implement corrective actions in test code, hardware, or documentation
- Write and maintain technical documentation: test specifications, software design notes, ATE configuration baselines, and troubleshooting guides for operations
- Provide hands‑on support to production and lab technicians for ATE usage, including training and on‑call support for critical issues
**Required Qualifications**
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 1–4 years of experience in semiconductor test engineering, ATE development, or similar automated test roles (wafer sort, final test, or system‑level test)
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Demonstrated ability to debug hardware‑software interactions: understanding schematics, probing boards, and correlating electrical issues with software behavior
- Experience with basic semiconductor test methodologies: parametric testing, functional testing, and characterization; familiarity with concepts like test coverage, guardbanding, and yield
- Strong data analysis skills (e.g., using Python, Pandas, or similar tools) for large test datasets, including statistical analysis and visualization
- Working knowledge of common lab equipment (SMUs, oscilloscopes, power supplies, DAQ, signal generators) and their remote‑control interfaces
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a track record of writing clear test specs and debug notes
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience with wafer‑level probe test, including probe cards, prober integration, and chuck/motion control
- Background in LED, laser diode, or optoelectronic device testing; familiarity with LIV curves, optical power measurement, and related metrics
- Familiarity with data infrastructure for test: SQL or time‑series databases and dashboarding tools
- Knowledge of version control (Git) and modern software development practices (code reviews, CI for test software)
- Exposure to reliability and qualification testing (HTOL, temperature cycling, etc.) and how these integrate with production test flows
- Experience working with cross‑functional teams (design, process, packaging, operations, and product engineering) to define and refine test requirements
