Neurochip mechanical test internship
Master internship, Bachelor internship - LeuvenPosted May 24, 2026via generic-json
Imec leverages its expertise in the extreme miniaturization of
electronic circuits to be one of the key drivers behind the next
generation of neural probes: small brain implants that contain electrodes
for recording the electrical signals from neurons. These Neuropixels probes are
widely considered to be the ‘gold standard’ in neuroscience. Designed with
advanced silicon chip technology, they offer thousands of electrodes for
precise neuron interaction, promoting profound insights into brain
functionality. These probes are commercially available and are being
distributed to more than a thousand neuroscience labs all over the world. Imec is seeking an internship student to help
us with the mechanical characterization (Mechanical testing of fragile asics) and
reporting (analyzing the mechanical test data and creating a summary report). Mechanical
validation of different modalities simulating chip-brain interactions. Force
measurements for in-vitro implantation testing. Data
handling and analysis using python/matlab. Safely
handling and storing fragile neural probes. Encapsulating
PCBs in an epoxy mold Summarizing
data in a structured report. Who you are You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in science or engineering fields You have fine handling skills to handle fragile probes You have a very punctual and organized mindset and do
not mind repetitive work You are fluent in English (verbal and written) Familiarity with material testing, electronics and
sensors, some hands-on experience preferred Comfortable working with chemicals and experience
working in a chemical or bio-lab Good
analytical skills, can work with data in Python / Excel and automate data
analysis Type of internship : Master internship, Bachelor internship Duration : 6 months Required educational background : Electromechanical engineering, Bioscience Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Supervising scientist(s) : For further information or for application, please contact Paresh Limaye ( Paresh.Limaye@imec.be ) The reference code for this position is 2026-INT-161 . Mention this reference code in your application. Imec allowance will be provided.
