Shaping the technologies of tomorrow is our mission at the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB). We develop application-driven solutions to complex challenges in the fields of optronics, sensor systems, and intelligent image analysis. Together with industry, public-sector partners, and research institutions, we translate innovative technologies into real-world applications, ranging from advanced sensor systems to cutting-edge solutions for security, communications, and autonomous systems. In the Adaptive Optics Group, we develop and investigate methods that compensate for atmospheric turbulence and enhance the performance of modern laser and laser communication systems. Our projects are conducted in close collaboration with industrial partners and public-sector customers, including the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr). The resulting technologies are directly transferred into innovative applications such as laser communications, high-energy laser systems, and emerging concepts for space debris removal. Through our work, we contribute to next-generation security-relevant technologies and create solutions with impact far beyond the laboratory.
