Theoretical Modelling of masing in Diamond and SiC
Master internship, Bachelor internship - LeuvenPosted Oct 17, 2026
Overview
Continuous-wave
solid-state MASERs utilizing diamond Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers has been
demonstrated towards ultra-low-noise microwave amplification at room
temperature [1][2]. This internship focuses on creating predictive mathematical
models to optimize the coupling between the NV spin ensemble and high-Q
microwave cavities. The student will bridge core quantum optics theory and
microwave engineering to study the physical masing threshold in diamond/SiC
platforms. Type of internship : Master internship, Bachelor internship Duration : 6-12 months Required educational background : Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Supervising scientist(s) : For further information or for application, please contact Zainab Chowdhry ( Zainab.Chowdhry@imec.be ) The reference code for this position is 2026-INT-354 . Mention this reference code in your application. Imec allowance will be provided.
