Microfabrication of Piezoelectric Material Based Resonators
Master internship - LeuvenPosted Oct 17, 2026
Overview
Piezoelectric resonators are key building blocks in a wide range of
technologies, from sensing and timing to communication and MEMS applications.
Their performance strongly depends not only on the piezoelectric material
itself, but also on how the device is designed and fabricated at the
microscale. In this master internship, you will have the opportunity to turn
piezoelectric thin films into functional microdevices and gain hands-on
experience with state-of-the-art microfabrication techniques. You will work on
the fabrication of piezoelectric resonators and explore how different
processing steps influence the final device quality and performance. The project combines
materials, microfabrication, and characterization, offering the opportunity to
follow the development of a device from fabrication to its final evaluation.
Working in a research-driven cleanroom environment, you will contribute to ongoing
research while developing practical skills relevant to both academic research
and the semiconductor/MEMS industry. Type of internship : Master internship Duration : 6 months Required educational background : Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering University promotor : Clement Merckling (KU Leuven) Supervising scientist(s) : For further information or for application, please contact Lorenzo Aime ( Lorenzo.Aime@imec.be ) and Mustafa Yildirim ( Mustafa.Yildirim@imec.be ) The reference code for this position is 2026-INT-251 .
