Postdoc in ICME for electron beam powder bed fusionKTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Industrial Engineering and Management
Job descriptionAt KTH Royal Institute of Technology, XPRES (the Centre of Excellence in Production Research) is a long-term national initiative to strengthen production science. Established in 2010, XPRES brings together KTH, Mälardalen University, RISE, and Swerim in close collaboration with leading industry to advance sustainable, digitalized, and human-centric manufacturing. We now invite outstanding candidates to join this dynamic, multi-partner research environment as postdoctoral researchers. We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to advance the understanding of process-microstructure-property relationships in metal additive manufacturing, with a focus on electron beam powder bed fusion (PBF-EB).The project investigates how process strategy, geometry and thermal history influence local microstructure and material properties in complex components. Using an Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) approach, modeling, process data and experimental characterization will be combined to link processing conditions to material behavior and structural integrity.Depending on your background, the work may include materials, process and microstructure modeling, process-data analysis, materials characterization and mechanical testing. The project is based at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and carried out within XPRES, in close collaboration with researchers in materials science, structural mechanics and production engineering. You will have the opportunity to shape the scientific direction and develop new methods at the interface between these fields.QualificationsRequirements
• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
• Research expertise in materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or another field relevant to the project.
• Demonstrated research experience in metallic materials and additive manufacturing, rapid solidification, computational materials science, materials modelling or a closely related area.
• Experience of connecting computational or theoretical approaches with experimental data or materials characterization.
• Ability to independently formulate and address scientific research questions.
• Good collaborative abilities and an interest in working across disciplinary boundaries.Preferred qualifications
• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
• Experience with Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), CALPHAD, microstructure modelling, process modelling, or related computational method.
• Experience with powder bed fusion or other metal additive manufacturing processes.
• Experience of combining modeling and experiments in materials research.
• Scientific publications demonstrating a high level of research expertise.
• Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.Join us at KTHKTH shapes the future through education, research and innovation.
