Position Overview Job Responsibilities • Design silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and devices for SiLC’s photonic engines, including waveguides, couplers, modulators, and detectors. • Perform photonic simulation (FDTD, EME, BPM, etc) to model and optimize component and PIC performance prior to tapeout. • Act as PIC lead on assigned designs, partnering with the layout team to translate designs into layout. • Work directly with fab partners to manage design rule compliance, mask data preparation, and tapeout submissions, tracking wafer runs from tapeout through fab-out. • Define and execute test plans for PIC-level and packaged photonic devices and engines. • Analyze test data to verify designs against specification, feeding results back into simulation models and future tapeouts. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on layout, fab, test, packaging, systems and software teams to bring SiLC’s products to market. Qualifications: • Ph.D degree in Photonics, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or a related field. • Hands-on experience designing silicon photonic integrated circuits or devices, spanning design through test. • Experience with photonic simulation tools (e.g. Lumerical FDTD/MODE/INTERCONNECT, PICS3D, Ansys, or similar). • Working knowledge of PIC layout and GDS tools, and experience working with layout teams and/or foundries. • Strong communication skills to interface with development team leads and senior management. Preferred Qualifications: • PIC lead experience, owning designs end-to-end and coordinating with layout and fab teams to deliver components on tight timelines. • Experience with silicon photonics foundry processes (e.g. AIM Photonics, GlobalFoundries, imec, Tower Semiconductor). • Familiarity with coherent sensing, FMCW lidar, or coherent detection concepts and technologies. • Lab experience with optical/electrical characterization equipment: optical spectrum analyzers, tunable lasers, power meters. • Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for simulation and data analysis. Compensation: • Base salary: $120,000-150,000 based on experience level and qualifications • Stock options • Other benefits include health/vision/dental insurance, 401(k), etc. Apply Now
